![]() ![]() ![]() Even some of the weaker barbarian factions have a hard time pulling a win.ĭerpamon is even resistant to the shock cav rushes that some higher level players like to do. Add a few Pikemen and Hippeus Lancers, and most other Hellenic factions fail to hold up against the javelins and hard hitting swords. Galatian Swords are good and cheap and Agema Spears are suprisingly capable, even if they are bad at head on engagements for their price. Sure, they don't get very many good elite units but on 11700 funds you don't necessarily need them. Because it is the only one that I can reliably get to work. I used Thracia, Illyria, Colchis and Cimmeria for the same reason, liked all of those BETTER than Pergamon at the time, and yet now Pergamon is the only one that still sees regular use. Seriously, how did this happen? I originally started using them to gimp myself when fighting noobs. I mostly just play multiplayer field battles these days, and somehow Pergamon (which I have been calling "Derpamon" for years) has ended up my most used large fund Hellenic army. A boring kind of warfare for me but extremely effective. In addition to this, I remember watching a guy whose strategy was to recruit heavy Spartan units, often considered out of the metagame, heavy artillery, deployable defenses.just imagine what followed. In regard of pikes factions, they can still be deathly in the proper hands, especially if they're paired with a good cavalry micro and units such as Agrianian Axemen and Mercenary Thracian Warriors which can massacrate off-guard enemies. I think it has an amazing unit roster (axes with high AP, solid melee infantry, meatshields, camels, shock and melee cavalry, spears.most of them with a good cost-benefit outcome). Talking more about the rosters than campaign possibilities, and given that I'm not sure what are the MP's most valued factions, I'd say that Saba receives few love, since Kush has all the attention in the Desert Kingdoms DLC. I feel myself like a cavalry commander, so I couldn't enjoy with them at all. I remember watching a Spaniard youtuber getting away with an Ardiaei army in MP (lots, lots of armour piercing damage + a little but strong core of hoplites). So what are YOUR favourite underrated faction? The Ardiaei aren't anywhere near the best battle faction in the game but they are WAY above what people rate them as. ![]() I do agree that the Ardiaei have some of the worst cavalry and melee units in the game, HOWEVER, their illyrian Hoplites are very good units with 105 armour, as high as royal spartans.Īnd if you invade Eprius on turn one and DON'T replace their hoplite barracks you can recruit illyrian hoplites by turn two, basically meaning your early game weakness is null and void. When the enemy run out of reach just put a cheap marine unit as bait and watch as the foolish foe charges at your one helpless unit while you tear them apart with your tower ships. You can break down enemy walls and sail your tower ships to pick away at their land units. The Ardiaei is the only barbarian faction to use Greek ships and they use the barbarian port type instead of the Greek one, meaning on their FIRST port they have access to Tetreres and on the second port upgrade, the Ardiaei have access to tower ships, artillery ships and the massive Penteres ship type. I think a faction that gets ignored by the community a fair bit is the Ardiaei. Well anyway i'm here to bring to attention Underrated factions and i'm curious to which playable factions you find underrated? Are people other than me still playing Rome 2? ![]()
